Description

This exquisite antique Japanese Amida Buddha statue, originating from the Edo period in the 18th century, showcases remarkable craftsmanship and spiritual significance. Standing at 73.5 cm, with the Buddha figure itself measuring 29 cm, this statue is a true representation of Buddhist art. It is beautifully gilded with 24-karat gold and features inlaid eyes, offering a striking expression that reflects divine serenity.

The open mandorla encircling the Buddha enhances the statue’s vibrancy and symbolizes enlightenment and the transcendental nature of the Buddha. The intricate pedestal is adorned with detailed carvings, enhancing its visual appeal and reinforcing its spiritual importance. The Dhyana mudra, which signifies meditation and reflection, is a poignant representation of the quest for inner peace and understanding inherent in Buddhist practice.

Japan has a rich tradition of Buddhist artistry, particularly during the Edo period, when art flourished as a reflection of religious devotion and cultural identity. This particular statue exemplifies the zenith of such artistic achievements, beautifully marrying form and meaning. In excellent condition with no repairs, this piece truly embodies the elegance and craftsmanship of its time, making it a cherished addition to any collection.
