Description

This exquisite antique Burmese Buddha statue stands at a height of 80.5 cm and is meticulously crafted from lacquerware, gilded with 24 karat gold, showcasing the exceptional artistry of late 18th to early 19th century Myanmar. The statue's dimensions—49.5 cm wide and 32.5 cm deep—complement its substantial weight of 4.9 kg, indicating a significant craftsmanship dedication.

Originating from Burma (Myanmar), this statue exemplifies the Shan (Tai Yai) style, which reflects the region's rich cultural tapestry. The intricate detailing and use of gold not only highlight the spiritual significance of the Buddha but also embody the artistic expression prevalent during the period.

The Bhumisparsha mudra depicted in this statue signifies the moment when the Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, symbolizing his divine connection to wisdom and awareness. This mudra is often associated with the Earth goddess, emphasizing stability and grounding.

Myanmar has a profound history steeped in Buddhism, with artistic traditions that date back centuries, making such statues not only representations of faith but also historical artifacts. This rare piece, in perfect condition, serves as a remarkable bridge between the past and present, embodying the spiritual essence of Buddhism while offering aesthetic beauty to any collection.
