Description

This pair of antique monk statues from Burma (Myanmar) exemplifies the rich spiritual heritage of the region, dating back to the 19th century. Crafted from wood and elegantly gilded with 24-karat gold, each statue stands at 18 cm in height, with a width of 9 cm and a depth of 9.5 cm. The craftsmanship is indicative of the meticulous artistry that flourished in Burma, where wood carving and gold leaf application have been traditional practices for centuries.

The statues embody the Namaskara mudra, a gesture of greeting or reverence, which reflects the monks’ devotion and tranquility. This pose typically signifies an expression of humility and respect in Buddhist culture, symbolizing the connection between the spiritual and material worlds.

Burma’s history is deeply intertwined with Buddhism, which has shaped its culture, art, and societal values. This pair of monk statues not only represents individual craftsmanship but also serves as a reminder of the profound spiritual symbolism that permeates Burmese life. From their intricate details to their serene expressions, these statues capture the essence of mindfulness and reverence, making them a meaningful addition to any collection of spiritual artifacts or decor rooted in cultural heritage.
