Description

This exquisite wooden Buddha statue, measuring 40.5 cm in height and 21.5 cm in width, originates from Burma (Myanmar) and dates back to the middle of the 20th century. The statue embodies the cultural and religious heritage of this region, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions of Buddhism in Myanmar, where Buddhist art and craftsmanship have flourished for centuries.

Depicted here seated on a Naga snake, the statue is rich in symbolism. The Naga, a mythical serpent, is revered in both Buddhist and Hindu traditions, often representing protection and wisdom. The Buddha's serene posture signifies tranquility and enlightenment, inviting contemplation from the observer.

This particular statue assumes the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture that represents the Earth-touching moment, symbolizing the Buddha's calling upon the Earth to witness his enlightenment. This mudra serves as a powerful reminder of the Buddha's attainment of inner peace and his resilience against worldly temptations.

The craftsmanship speaks volumes about the artistic skills prevalent during the period, capturing intricate details that highlight the spiritual significance of the figure. As a product of Burma, it reflects the nation's rich history and dedication to preserving its Buddhist heritage, making it not only a decorative piece but also a meaningful addition to any spiritual collection.
