Description

This exquisite pair of wooden Burmese monks, standing at 81 cm and 77 cm respectively, embodies the rich cultural heritage of Myanmar (Burma). Crafted in the Mandalay style during the middle of the 20th century, these statues reflect the artistic tradition that flourished in the region, characterized by intricate details and a serene aesthetic.

The use of natural wood combined with gilded surfaces showcases traditional craftsmanship, while the porcelain eyes add a unique and lifelike quality to the figures. Such representations often serve not only as decorative pieces but also as spiritual symbols, encouraging meditation and contemplation among practitioners of Buddhism.

Mandalay, once the royal capital, is known for its historical significance and as a center for artisanship in Myanmar. The flourishing of Buddhism in this region has led to the creation of numerous religious artifacts, making these monks a meaningful addition to any collection. They symbolize wisdom and serenity—qualities revered in Buddhist tradition.
