Description

This exquisite Old Bronze Nepali Bodhisattva statue, standing at 29.5 cm, embodies the rich artistic and spiritual heritage of Nepal. Crafted in the mid-20th century, this piece is notable for its intricate fire gilding with 24 karat gold, which enhances its aesthetic allure while symbolizing spiritual illumination.

The statue features inlaid real gemstones that add a layer of opulence, expressing the reverence for Bodhisattvas in Buddhist tradition. Bodhisattvas are enlightened beings who have chosen to remain in the cycle of rebirth to assist others in attaining enlightenment, making this statue a powerful symbol of compassion and altruism.

The detailed artistry showcases skillful craftsmanship typical of Nepali bronze work, where spiritual themes are intricately woven into sculptures. This particular representation holds a Dharmachakra mudra, symbolizing the turning of the Wheel of Dharma and the dissemination of spiritual teachings.

Nepal's history is steeped in Buddhism, with Kathmandu being a renowned center for Buddhist culture and artistry. The vibrant traditions of sculpture and metalwork reached their zenith during the Malla period, influencing art forms that continue to flourish today. This statue not only enhances any collection but also serves as a meaningful connection to the spiritual legacy of Nepal and its artistic traditions.
