Description

This exquisite Old Bronze Burmese Ava Buddha statue stands at an impressive height of 77 cm and embodies the rich artistic traditions of Myanmar (Burma) during the early 20th century. Crafted from bronze, the statue weighs 40.9 kg and features detailed workmanship that reflects the skill and dedication of its creator.

The Ava style, which flourished in the Ava Kingdom from the 14th to 18th centuries, signifies a unique blend of indigenous Burmese influences and elements borrowed from neighboring cultures. The statue showcases the elegance associated with Ava art, characterized by slender proportions, serene facial expressions, and intricate detailing, all of which contribute to its spiritual significance.

Depicting the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture often interpreted as the "earth-touching" pose, this statue symbolizes the moment of enlightenment when Buddha called upon the earth to bear witness to his attainment of Nirvana. This position serves as a powerful reminder of the Buddha's commitment to awakening and serves as an invitation for viewers to contemplate their own spiritual journeys.

Burma's rich history as a center for Buddhist scholarship and artistry adds depth to this statue’s significance. The fusion of culture and spirituality in this piece makes it not only a remarkable work of art but also a meaningful representation of Buddhist heritage in Myanmar.
