Description

This large old bronze Avalokiteshvara statue, measuring 104 cm in height, 56.5 cm in width, and 27 cm in depth, exemplifies the artistry of mid-20th century China. Avalokiteshvara, known as the Bodhisattva of Compassion, is revered across various Buddhist traditions for embodying the qualities of mercy and kindness.

The intricate design showcases Avalokiteshvara with multiple arms, each symbolizing the ability to reach out and assist all beings in need. This imagery reflects a deep-rooted belief in the interconnectedness of all life and the Bodhisattva's commitment to alleviating suffering. The statue’s detailed craftsmanship highlights traditional Chinese artistry, which often blends religion with aesthetic appeal, creating pieces that are both spiritually significant and visually captivating.

Originating from China, the statue connects to a rich history of Buddhist art that flourished particularly during the Tang and Song dynasties, marking significant cultural exchanges with other regions. The use of bronze signifies durability and timelessness, while the mudra of Namaskara, characterized by hands situated in a gesture of reverence, evokes a sense of humility and devotion.

This sculpture is not merely a decorative piece but a profound representation of compassion and spiritual legacy, inviting contemplation and reflection in any space it inhabits.
