This large antique Shan Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar) and dating back to the 18th century, stands at an impressive height of 106.5 cm. A captivating representation of the Shan style, it reflects a rich artistic heritage influenced by the Tai Yai people, who are known for their intricate craftsmanship and deep spiritual traditions.

The statue is adorned with traces of its original 24-karat gilding, which enhances its visual appeal and historical significance. Its dimensions—56 cm wide and 35 cm deep—make it a striking centerpiece for any collection. The craftsmanship exhibits the delicate balance between aesthetic beauty and spiritual representation, symbolizing the enduring legacy of Buddhism in the region.

Crafted from wood, the statue embodies the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture that signifies the Buddha's moment of enlightenment, where he calls the Earth as a witness to his quest for truth. This mudra not only enhances the statue's spiritual essence but also underscores its significance in Buddhist iconography.

The Shan region has a rich history of Buddhism, and its art is steeped in various cultural and spiritual influences. This statue is a testament to that heritage, offering a glimpse into the devotion and artistic expression of the time.
