Description

This large antique bronze Thai Buddha statue, standing at an impressive 178 cm and weighing approximately 150 kilograms, exemplifies the rich artistic heritage of Thailand. Dating back to the 19th century, this statue embodies the Rattanakosin style, a period known for its exquisite craftsmanship and integration of traditional and modern influences in Thai art.

The intricate detailing of the statue is accentuated by gilding with 24 karat gold, creating a radiant appearance that captures the essence of spiritual enlightenment. The statue features the Abhaya mudra, a symbolic gesture depicting fearlessness and reassurance, representing the Buddha's teachings of inner peace and tranquility. This gesture is a significant aspect of Buddhist iconography, frequently used to convey the message of protection and blessing.

Originating from Thailand, a country deeply intertwined with Buddhism, this statue reflects the historical significance of the religion within Thai culture. The Rattanakosin period saw the establishment of Bangkok as the capital and the revival of traditional art forms, making such artifacts essential markers of Thailand's spiritual and cultural identity. This exceptional piece not only serves as a decorative item but also as a spiritual emblem, enhancing the atmosphere of any space it occupies. The removable Buddha from its pedestal adds versatility, allowing for varied display options, further enriching its significance in both religious and artistic contexts.
