This antique wooden temple fragment of a horse head, originating from India and dating back to the 18th century, showcases the intricate craftsmanship typical of Indian art from that period. Standing at 41.5 cm in height and weighing 1.75 kg, it is a remarkable representation of traditional Indian sculptural style.

The horse holds significant cultural and symbolic meaning in Indian heritage. Often associated with strength, nobility, and status, horses have been valued in Indian society not only for their practical uses but also in spiritual contexts. They frequently appear in temple architecture and iconography, representing various deities or serving as vehicles for gods, notably in the context of Hindu mythology.

The fragment’s weathered wooden texture and remnants of blue paint illustrate the passage of time and the enduring nature of its artistic legacy. Such artifacts contribute to a rich narrative of past customs and beliefs, capturing the essence of the spiritual and material culture in which they were created.

India's craftsmanship flourished during the 18th century, marked by a blending of local traditions and influences from visiting traders and artisans. This piece serves as a historical testament to that era, highlighting both artistic achievement and cultural significance, making it a valuable addition to any collection of historical artifacts.
