Description

This exquisite antique wooden Mandalay Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), dates back to the 19th century and stands at 41.2 cm tall. Skillfully crafted from wood and gilded with 24-karat gold, it exemplifies the rich artistic traditions of Burmese craftsmanship. The statue’s dimensions—29.8 cm wide and 22.4 cm deep—coupled with its weight of 3.85 kg, attest to its solid construction and detailed artistry.

The seated Buddha is depicted in a posture that conveys serenity and wisdom, embodying the revered qualities of enlightenment. Notably, the statue features the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture that signifies the moment of Buddha's enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, symbolizing the call to the earth as a witness. This mudra encapsulates themes of resistance to temptation and the attainment of spiritual awakening.

Burmese culture, heavily influenced by Theravada Buddhism, has a long history of creating statues that reflect religious devotion and artistic expression. The harmonious blend of gold detailing and intricate adornments, including gemstones embedded in the statue, showcases the opulent religious artifacts that have been a significant part of Burmese heritage.

This remarkable piece not only serves as a beautiful decorative item but also as a profound symbol of peace and spiritual inspiration, making it a treasured addition to any collection.
