Description

This exquisite antique wooden Burmese Shan Buddha, dating back to the early 19th century, stands at 54.5 cm tall and showcases the artistic craftsmanship of the Shan (Tai Yai) people of Myanmar. Known for their rich cultural heritage, the Shan create intricate wooden carvings that often embody a blend of spiritual serenity and artistic expression.

The statue features a striking marble head, hands, and feet, with the right hand crafted from wood, reflecting the connection between the physical and spiritual realms. The Bhumisparsha mudra, signifying the moment of enlightenment when Siddhartha Gautama called the earth to witness his ascension, is depicted here with grace and poise. This gesture symbolizes the Buddha's determination to attain spiritual awakening, making this piece not only a decorative artifact but also a powerful emblem of peace and mindfulness.

Originating from Burma, which has long been a crossroads of Buddhist tradition and diverse artistic influences, this statue encapsulates the devotion and craftsmanship of its creators. Weighing 8.13 kg and crafted with care, this piece serves as a meaningful addition to any collection. The rich history and symbolism embedded in the work remind us of the universal quest for enlightenment that transcends time and culture.
