Description

This antique wooden Burmese Shan Buddha stands at 28.2 cm tall, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship from the 19th century. Elegantly gilded with 24-karat gold, the statue features intricate details, reflecting the rich artistic heritage of the Shan (Tai Yai) style endemic to Myanmar. The statue's dimensions are 15 cm in width and 8.6 cm in depth, weighing 550 grams, making it a thoughtfully sized piece for both collectors and admirers of Buddhist art.

The Bhumisparsha mudra, which is characterized by the Buddha's right hand touching the earth, symbolizes the moment of enlightenment and the testimony to overcoming obstacles. This mudra is significant in Buddhist tradition, as it represents a call for the earth to bear witness to one's moral integrity and enlightenment.

Burma, now known as Myanmar, has a long and complex history, deeply intertwined with Buddhist practices and principles. Its culture has been shaped by centuries of religious devotion and artistic expression, with the Shan state being a cornerstone of this heritage.
