This antique wooden Burmese Nat statue, known as Tajamin, stands at 13.5 cm tall and is gilded with 24-karat gold, reflecting the craftsmanship of the 19th century. The statue, measuring 4 cm in width and 4.4 cm in depth, is a revered representation of a Nat, which are spirits central to Burmese culture and beliefs. Traditionally, Nats are thought to protect and offer guidance to their worshippers, bridging the gap between the physical and spiritual realms.

The Nat is a key element in Burmese animistic traditions, with a rich history that predates Buddhism in the region. Statues like this one are often found in homes and temples, serving as focal points for devotion and reverence. The intricate details and the use of gold leaf signify not only artistic excellence but also the high esteem in which these spiritual figures are held.

Originating from Myanmar, this piece embodies the blend of indigenous spirit worship and Buddhist influence that has shaped the cultural landscape of the country over centuries. The age and material of the statue provide a tangible connection to the past, making it a significant artifact for collectors and admirers of Burmese art and heritage. With a weight of only 44 grams, this relatively lightweight statue is a precious representation of the spiritual richness of Burma, inviting admiration and reflection on its storied history.
