Description

This antique wooden Burmese Buddha statue, standing at 54 cm tall, represents a remarkable example of Shan (Tai Yai) artistry dating back to the 18th century. Crafted from wood, the statue exhibits a serene expression, embodying peace and enlightenment, which are central themes in Buddhism.

Originating from Burma (now Myanmar), this statue reflects the rich cultural and spiritual history of the region. The Shan people, known for their distinct artistic styles, often depict the Buddha in various poses and attire, underscoring the fusion of local traditions with Buddhist iconography. This particular statue showcases the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture symbolizing the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment, when he called the Earth to witness his resolve against the temptations he faced.

The craftsmanship is evident in the detailed rendering of the Buddha's features and draped robe, which tells a story of devotion and spiritual aspiration. Weighing 5.08 kg, this piece not only serves as a decorative element but also as a historical artifact, inviting contemplation and reflection. As you integrate this statue into your space, you will appreciate the deep sense of heritage and tranquility it evokes, making it a timeless addition to any collection.
