Description

This exquisite antique wooden Burmese Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), is a remarkable representation of the Shan (Tai Yai) style, tracing its roots back to the 18th century. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this 35.7 cm tall statue reflects the profound spiritual heritage of Burmese culture.

Gilded in 24-carat gold, the statue embodies a soft radiance that elevates its presence. The expert craftsmanship showcases not only artistic skill but also a deep respect for Buddhist traditions. The Bhumisparsha mudra, depicted here, signifies the moment of Buddha’s enlightenment, where he touches the earth to call upon it as his witness. This gesture emphasizes themes of stability and connection to the earth, embodying Buddha's triumph over ignorance.

Burmese art, particularly from the Shan region, is deeply interwoven with themes of Theravada Buddhism, offering insights into the spiritual landscape of the time. The intricate details, such as the serene expression and ornate pedestal, further enhance the statue's significance as a symbol of peace and enlightenment.

Weighing 2.58 kg, this authentic wooden statue is a cherished artifact, representing not just an aesthetic piece but also a historical narrative of faith and artistry that continues to resonate in contemporary times.
