This antique wooden Burmese Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), stands at a height of 69.5 cm and showcases the Shan style, also known as Tai Yai. Crafted in the 17th century, the statue carries historical significance, reflecting the rich Buddhist traditions of the region. The Shan people have a longstanding heritage in Myanmar, and their artistic expressions are characterized by delicate craftsmanship, vibrant yet understated ornamentation, and spiritual significance.

The statue features traces of original gilding, which enhances its historical allure, indicating the reverence with which such images were often adorned by devotees. The Bhumisparsha mudra is depicted here, symbolizing the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment, where he calls the Earth to witness his attainment of Nirvana. This pose is not only one of the most recognizable mudras in Buddhist art but also signifies the victory over Mara, the embodiment of temptation and distraction.

The serene expression and intricate details demonstrate the skilled artistry of its time, making this piece a remarkable artifact of cultural history. Weighing 7.4 kg and measuring 25.2 cm in width and 19 cm in depth, this statue not only serves as a spiritual symbol but also as a testament to the craftsmanship and devotion of the Burmese artisans from centuries past.
