Description

This Antique Thai Bronze Monk Statue is an exquisite representation of spiritual artistry from Thailand, specifically from the 19th century Rattanakosin period. Standing at 33.3 cm tall, it is elegantly gilded with 24 karat gold, showcasing intricate craftsmanship that highlights the beauty of Thai artistic traditions.

The statue depicts a monk in a seated position, embodying tranquility and enlightenment. The Bhumisparsha mudra, or "earth-touching gesture," signifies the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment, serving as a reminder of steadfastness and the grounding of spiritual practice. This gesture is significant within Buddhist iconography, as it represents the call to the Earth to bear witness to the Buddha's enlightenment and his readiness to teach.

Thailand, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and deep-rooted Buddhist traditions, flourished during the Rattanakosin period. This era saw the reawakening of traditional practices, leading to refined artistic expressions in sculpture and temple architecture. The statue not only serves as a decorative piece but also a profound symbol of faith, reflecting the enduring principles of Buddhism.

Weighing 5.99 kg and measuring 26.2 cm in width and 16 cm in depth, this special piece offers a blend of artistry and history, making it a meaningful addition to any collection or spiritual space.
