This antique marble Burmese Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), stands 68.5 cm tall, 41 cm wide, and 18 cm deep. Crafted in the 18th century, it showcases the Shan (Tai Yai) style, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and artistic expressions of the region. The Shan people, known for their distinctive art and traditions, have a history that spans centuries, deeply intertwining with the broader Buddhist heritage of Southeast Asia.

The statue features the Bhumisparsha mudra, symbolizing the moment of enlightenment when Buddha touched the earth, calling it to witness his attainment of Nirvana. This powerful gesture conveys a profound sense of stability and groundedness, representative of the teachings of Buddhism, which emphasize inner peace and mindfulness.

Marble, the material used in this piece, was commonly chosen for its durability and aesthetic qualities, allowing artisans to create intricate carvings that resonate with spiritual significance. The statue’s serene expression and detailed craftsmanship evoke a sense of tranquility, making it not only a remarkable artistic achievement but also a significant cultural artifact.

As part of Burma’s artistic heritage, this statue serves as a testament to the region's dedication to preserving Buddhist traditions through art and sculpture. Its historical and spiritual importance continues to resonate, making it a treasured piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
