Description

This exquisite antique marble Buddha statue from Burma, dating back to the 19th century, stands at a height of 53.5 cm, offering a captivating glimpse into the region's rich cultural heritage. Crafted from fine marble, the statue demonstrates the Mandalay style, known for its intricate detailing and refined expressions, typical of Burmese Buddhist art.

The statue depicts the Buddha in a meditative posture, as suggested by its careful attention to features and symbolic gestures, including the Bhumisparsha mudra, representing the moment of enlightenment. This particular mudra signifies the Buddha's attainment of Nirvana and his call to the Earth as a witness to his enlightenment.

Inscribed at the base are likely the names of the family who donated this piece, reflecting the tradition of public devotion and the communal aspect of Buddhist practice in Myanmar. Burma, with its deep-rooted Buddhist traditions, has produced many such artifacts that not only serve as spiritual icons but also as reminders of the country's vibrant history.

Weighing 38.7 kg, this statue is not just a decorative piece; it is a testament to the craftsmanship of its era and an embodiment of the spiritual legacy that continues to resonate in Burmese culture.
