Description

This exquisite Antique Marble Ava Buddha Statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), dates back to the late 18th or early 19th century. Standing at a height of 70 cm (including the wooden base) and crafted from fine marble, it embodies the rich artistic heritage of Burmese craftsmanship.

The Ava period, notable for its distinctive style, showcases detailed carvings and elegant forms, reflecting a fusion of local traditions and influences from neighboring cultures. This statue features a serene depiction of the Buddha in a meditative pose, emphasizing tranquility and enlightenment.

The Bhumisparsha mudra, depicted here, symbolically represents the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment, where he calls the Earth to witness his resolve against Mara, the embodiment of temptation. This gesture conveys stability and a grounded approach to spiritual awakening, making this piece not only a decorative item but a meaningful representation of Buddhist teachings.

Burma's history is steeped in Buddhist tradition, and such statues have historically played a significant role in the cultural and spiritual landscape. Displaying this statue in one’s space serves as a reminder of mindfulness and the pursuit of inner peace, encapsulating the essence of Burmese artistry and philosophy.
