  • Originating from Burma (Myanmar)

The Antique Ivory Kammavaca Manuscript is a remarkable artifact from Burma (Myanmar), dating back to the 19th century. This extraordinary piece stands out due to its exceptional condition and intricate craftsmanship, featuring two ornate wooden covers and twelve ivory pages, significantly fewer than the typical sixteen found in similar manuscripts. The manuscript is elegantly gilded in 24-karat gold and inscribed in Pali, the ancient liturgical language of Theravada Buddhism.

Kammavaca manuscripts are traditionally used in Buddhist ceremonies, often containing texts that serve to guide monks and lay practitioners in their spiritual practices. This particular manuscript was crafted for a special family ceremony, emphasizing its unique significance and heritage.

Burma has a rich history of Buddhist scholarship and artistry, with Kammavaca manuscripts playing a crucial role in the preservation and transmission of religious knowledge. Collectors and scholars alike highly value these works not only for their beauty and artistry but also for their cultural importance.

This piece exemplifies the fine craftsmanship and deep spiritual roots of Burmese culture, making it a wonderful addition for those interested in history, spirituality, or unique decorative arts. Owning this manuscript provides a tangible connection to the rich traditions of Buddhism in Myanmar.
