This antique wooden offering vessel, originating from Burma (Myanmar), stands 59 cm tall with a diameter of 29 cm. Crafted in the 19th century, it represents the Shan (Tai Yai) style, known for its elegant shapes and intricate craftsmanship. The striking red color is traditional in Buddhist art, symbolizing protection and good fortune.

In Burmese culture, offering vessels like this one are integral to spiritual practices, often used in temples during rituals to hold offerings made to the Buddha or various deities. The design features smooth curves and a finial at the top, which reflect both aesthetic beauty and functional purpose. The tapering silhouette enhances the vessel's grace, allowing it to stand out as an exquisite piece of art.

Burma’s rich artistic heritage is deeply intertwined with its history of Buddhism, which has inspired countless artisans over the centuries. The Shan people, known for their distinctive cultural contributions, have left a lasting impact on the craftsmanship of wooden artifacts, especially in religious contexts.

Owning this vessel not only connects one to the spiritual traditions of the Shan community but also celebrates the artistic legacy of Burma. Its historical significance and craftsmanship make it a remarkable addition to any collection, serving as a reminder of the region’s profound cultural heritage.
