This Antique Burmese Shan Buddha is a remarkable representation of the Shan artistic tradition originating from Burma (Myanmar) during the 17th to 18th centuries. Crafted from bronze, this statue stands at a height of 31 cm and weighs approximately 3.67 kg, reflecting the adept metallurgical skills of the time.

The Shan style, influenced by both indigenous and external artistic elements, is characterized by its graceful proportions and serene facial features that embody a deep sense of tranquility. This particular statue embodies the Bhumisparsha mudra, which is indicative of the Buddha's enlightenment and his calling upon the earth to witness his attainment of Buddhahood. The posture and hand gesture emphasize stability, grounding, and the connection to the earth, making it a powerful symbol of mindfulness and inner peace.

Burma has a rich history of Buddhism, with the religion deeply intertwined with the culture and identity of the nation. The Shan people, known for their unique traditions and artistic contributions, play a significant role in preserving this spiritual heritage. This statue not only serves as a decorative piece but also as a conduit of history and spirituality, inviting reflection on the teachings of the Buddha and the essence of peace. Owning this artifact is akin to possessing a piece of Burmese heritage, steeped in tradition and reverence.
