Description

This antique bronze Thai Rattanakosin Buddha statue, measuring 30.6 cm in height, represents a significant cultural and artistic heritage from Thailand. Crafted during the 19th century, this piece is a fine example of the Rattanakosin period, a time marked by a revival of classic Thai art forms following the fall of the Ayutthaya kingdom.

Gilded with 24-karat gold, this statue embodies the meticulous craftsmanship and rich symbolism inherent in Thai Buddhist art. The Rattanakosin style is characterized by intricate detailing, reflected in the ornate decorations and gestures of the Buddha, which convey profound spiritual meanings. This particular statue features the Bhumisparsha mudra, or “Earth Touching” pose, symbolizing the moment of Buddha’s enlightenment, where he calls upon the Earth to witness his attainment of nirvana.

Originating from Thailand, a country with over 2,500 years of Buddhist tradition, this statue not only serves as a representation of spiritual devotion but also as a testament to Thai historical narratives and artistry. Its weightiness and elaborate design convey the reverence and artistry that have defined Thai culture through centuries, making it a treasured addition for collectors and enthusiasts of Buddhist art alike.
