Description

This remarkable Antique Bronze Shan Buddha stands at an impressive height of 37.5 cm and weights 4.57 kg. Originating from Burma (Myanmar) and dating back to the 18th century, this statue exemplifies the rich artistic heritage and spiritual traditions of the region.

The Shan style, also known as Tai Yai, reflects the unique cultural blend of Burmese and Tai influences, characterized by intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail. The serene expression and graceful posture of the Buddha invite contemplation and reverence, embodying the Buddhist ideals of peace and enlightenment.

The statue is depicted in a seated posture, a common representation of the Buddha in meditative contemplation. Notably, this piece features the Bhumisparsha mudra, or the "Earth Touching" gesture, symbolizing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called upon the Earth to bear witness to his renunciation of worldly attachments.

Burma's historical context is woven deeply with Buddhist art, where such statues not only serve a decorative purpose but also act as focal points for devotion and prayer. This Shan Buddha is a testament to the enduring legacy of Buddhism in Myanmar, reflecting centuries of spiritual practice and artistic expression. Its presence in any collection serves as a bridge to the profound cultural and religious heritage of the region.
