This Antique Bronze Opium Weight, originating from Burma (Myanmar), stands at 3.9 cm in height, 2.8 cm in width, and 3 cm in depth. Weighing 78 grams and crafted from bronze, this piece dates back to the 19th century.

In Burmese culture, opium weights were traditionally used in the weighing of opium, a significant commodity in the region's economic history. These weights often take the forms of various animals, symbolizing different values and characteristics associated with their forms. This particular piece is intricately designed to resemble a duck, which may allude to attributes such as adaptability and resourcefulness.

The practice of using opium weights can be traced to the thriving opium trade in Southeast Asia, particularly during the colonial period. The craftsmanship reflects the artistry and cultural significance tied to commerce during that time. Each weight, imbued with its own historical context, serves as a tangible connection to the past, representing both trade and the intricate beliefs of the society from which it originated.

With its unique design and rich history, this antique weight not only serves as a collectible but also as a conversation piece that embodies the essence of Burmese heritage and craftsmanship.
