Description

This antique bronze Burmese Shan Buddha statue stands at 30.2 cm tall, showcasing the exquisite artistry of the Shan (Tai Yai) culture from Myanmar. Dating back to the 18th century, this piece reflects a significant period in Burmese history when the Shan people were influential in the region's art and culture.

Crafted from bronze, the statue exhibits traces of its original lacquer and 24-karat gilding, enhancing its historical charm and value. The serene expression and intricate detailing exemplify the Buddhist artistic tradition, where craftsmanship was highly revered.

The Bhumisparsha mudra, represented by the Buddha's hand reaching toward the earth, symbolizes enlightenment and the moment of the Buddha's awakening. This gesture is a reminder of the Buddha's quest for truth and his connection to the earth, emphasizing stability and grounding.

Burma, known for its rich cultural heritage, has been a melting pot of diverse ethnicities, with the Shan people adding their unique influences to the region. The provenance from a former German private collection adds to the statue's historical significance, making it not just a decorative item, but a piece of art that carries stories from the past.

This artifact serves as a timeless connection to the spiritual and artistic traditions of Burma, offering both aesthetic beauty and a deeper understanding of its cultural heritage.
