This antique bronze Burmese Mandalay Buddha, dating from the late 19th century, is a remarkable representation of the Buddhist artistic heritage from Myanmar. Standing at 44 cm in height and weighing 8 kg, this statue is crafted from bronze and features meticulous detailing, including inlaid eyes that convey a serene presence.

The Mandalay style is characterized by its emphasis on grace and the serene expression of the Buddha. Originating from the city of Mandalay, a historical center of Buddhist culture, this artistic style reflects the religious fervor of an era when Buddhism flourished in Burma. During the 19th century, artisans focused on creating intricate and expressive representations of the Buddha, which often adorned temples and homes as symbols of faith and meditation.

This specific statue depicts the Bhumisparsha mudra, which signifies the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the Earth to witness his spiritual awakening. Such gestures are integral in Buddhist iconography, symbolizing profound teachings and the pursuit of inner peace.

The country of origin, Burma, has a rich history influenced by various forms of art and spirituality. The Mandalay region, once the royal capital, has greatly contributed to the preservation and development of Buddhist traditions, which are still visible today in its temples and festivals. This statue not only serves as a decorative piece but also as a meaningful artifact that connects to the spiritual and cultural heritage of Myanmar.
