Description

This exquisite Antique Bronze Burmese Ava Buddha statue stands 29.2 cm tall and showcases the rich artistic heritage of Burma (Myanmar). Dating back to the 15th century, the statue is crafted from bronze, with subtle traces of 24-karat gilding that highlight its intricately detailed features.

The Ava style, which emerged during the Ava Kingdom period in the 14th to 18th centuries, is characterized by its elegant form and serene expressions. This period was noted for its cultural and artistic flourishing, embracing both traditional Buddhist motifs and localized artistic interpretations. The statue’s composition and craftsmanship reflect the mastery of artisans who sought to convey spiritual tranquility and devotion.

The Aval Buddha depicted here is often associated with the Bhumisparsha or "Earth Touching" mudra, symbolizing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the Earth as a witness to his attainment. This mudra conveys reassurance and the strength of overcoming obstacles, making this statue a powerful emblem of spiritual grounding.

Originating from a region steeped in Buddhist history and tradition, this statue not only serves as a decorative piece but also as a connection to the deep spiritual roots of Buddhist practice in Myanmar. With a weight of 2.18 kg, this monumental work of art offers both aesthetic beauty and historical significance, making it a remarkable addition to any collection.
