Description

This Antique Alabaster Buddha Statue hails from Burma (Myanmar), a country known for its deep-rooted Buddhist traditions and artistic craftsmanship. This statue, with a height of 50.4 cm and a width of 26.3 cm, exemplifies the distinctive Ava style that emerged during the 17th and 18th centuries. The Ava style is characterized by its serene expressions and delicate detailing, reflecting the period's emphasis on spiritual and aesthetic harmony.

Crafted from alabaster, the statue retains traces of its original lacquer and is accented with 24-karat gold, enhancing its overall elegance. The Bhumisparsha mudra, depicted here, represents the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment and symbolizes the act of calling the Earth to witness his attainment of Nirvana. This gesture emphasizes the connection between the spiritual and terrestrial worlds, conveying a message of peace and mindfulness.

Burma, with its rich cultural heritage, has long been a center for Buddhist art, where craftsmanship and spirituality intertwine. The unique historical context of this statue offers not just aesthetic pleasure but also a glimpse into the religious devotion that inspired its creation. This remarkable piece is an exquisite artifact that embodies both the art and the spiritual essence of its time, making it a significant addition to any collection.
