Description

This exceptional 18th-century crowned Shan Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), stands at 61.2 cm tall and features intricate details with traces of 24 karat gilding. Crafted from bronze, this statue reflects the artistic traditions of the Shan people, also known as the Tai Yai, who have a rich cultural heritage influenced by both Buddhist and local customs.

The Shan style is characterized by its elegant lines and elaborate headdress, symbolizing divinity and spiritual authority. This representation of the Buddha in a seated position is intended to convey serenity and contemplation, embodying the key principles of Buddhism that guide followers toward inner peace.

The Bhumisparsha mudra, typically represented in similar statues, signifies the moment of the Buddha’s enlightenment, where he touches the earth to call it as a witness to his awakening. This gesture emphasizes the themes of stability and grounding, reinforcing the essence of Buddhist teachings.

Burma's history is deeply intertwined with Buddhism, the predominant religion that has shaped its art and culture for centuries. This statue not only serves as a beautiful decorative piece but also as a representation of an era when craftsmanship in religious artifacts thrived, allowing practitioners and admirers alike to connect with the spiritual legacy of the region. Weighing 14.65 kg, it is a substantial piece that holds both historical and cultural significance.
