Description

This 14th century bronze U-Thong Buddha statue, originating from Thailand, exemplifies the artistic mastery of the U-Thong period, which lasted from the 13th to the 15th centuries. The U-Thong style is characterized by its serene facial expressions and detailed ornamentation, often reflecting the spiritual principles of Buddhism.

Standing at 15.9 cm tall, with a width of 10.5 cm and a depth of 5.2 cm, this statue showcases the traditional craftsmanship that has been preserved through generations. The bronze material indicates the importance of durability and permanence in Buddhist art, allowing these sacred figures to endure through centuries of reverence.

The statue manifests the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture symbolizing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called upon the Earth to witness his vow against Mara, representing ignorance and distraction. This gesture embodies the central tenets of mindfulness and stability found within Buddhist teachings.

Thailand boasts a rich history of Buddhism, which has profoundly influenced its cultural and artistic heritage. This piece not only serves as a decorative object but also as a spiritual emblem, connecting the viewer to the profound teachings of Buddhism and the rich legacy of Thai artistry. Collecting such artifacts allows for a greater appreciation of the intricate narratives and traditions they represent.
